Dune and The Suicide Squad star David Dastmalchian is set to join Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon in the cast of 20th Century Studios’ Boston Strangler movie in a role described as ‘pivotal’ by The Hollywood Reporter.
Alessandro Nivola and Chris Cooper will also star in the true crime drama, which is being written and directed by Matt Ruskin. Ridley Scott and Kevin Walsh of Scott Free are producing alongside Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap Entertainment.
Ruskin brings some previous to the true-crime biopic as he is best known for Crown Heights, the Lakeith Stanfield film which was adapted from the This American Life podcast that centred on the true story of Colin Warner, who was wrongfully convicted of murder.
Boston Strangler will be based on Loretta McLaughlin, who will be played by Keira Knightley. She was the first reporter to connect the murders and break the story of the Strangler. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole challenged the sexism of the early 1960s to report on the city’s most notorious serial killer and worked tirelessly to keep women informed. Loretta pursued the story at great personal risk and uncovered corruption that cast doubt on the true identity of the Boston Strangler.
Wouldn’t it be nice if it turned out that Dastmalchian wasn’t the titular Boston menace? Let us know what you think of this stellar cast by heading over to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
