With J.A. Bayona departing the planned sequel to World War Z in order to helm the follow-up to Jurassic World, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Brad Pitt has turned to his Se7en and Fight Club director David Fincher in an effort to rescue the project.
According to the site, Fincher has had talks with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions, and “is surprisingly open to the idea”, despite his preference for avoiding blockbusters and sequels.
Fincher’s last feature film was 2014’s Gone Girl, but he’s been busy on the small screen lately, serving as executive producer on House of Cards, as well as developing two aborted HBO projects, Living on Video and Utopia.
The original World War Z was released in 2013, and brushed aside a troubled production to gross over $540 million worldwide.
