With The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox now official and expected to complete in the first half of 2019, the future of Fox’s various X-Men properties is very much up in the air at the moment.
The studio has Drew Goddard attached to X-Force, which will reunite Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Josh Brolin (Cable) and Domino (Zazie Beetz), and it is expected that Disney would release the movie, along with any others that have already began production by the time the takeover is complete.
Earlier this month, it was rumoured that Fox is also be looking to squeeze a third Deadpool movie out during that time, and now Geeks WorldWide is claiming that Deadpool 2 helmer David Leitch is now attached to direct the threequel
Leitch has previously expressed his interest in returning for Deadpool 3, but the director is currently wrapped up with the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw, which will shoot through to January. Whether that will allow him enough time to get Deadpool 3 into production prior to the Disney takeover remains to be seen, although there is always the possibility that Disney could continue the current Deadpool series following the merger, at least in the short term.
As for X-Force, the team-up movie was slated to go into production this fall, but that seems in doubt now given that Goddard is still working on his new film Bad Times at the El Royale, and both Ryan Reynolds and Zazie Beetz are currently tied up with other projects.
Marvel’s motormouth mercenary is back! Bigger, better and occasionally more pantless than ever before. When a super soldier arrives on a murderous mission, Deadpool is forced to think about friendship, family and what it really means to be a hero – all while kicking 50 shades of ass. Because, sometimes, to do the right thing you need to fight dirty.
Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Bedlam, Lewis Tan (Iron Fist) as Shatterstar, Bill Skarsgard (It) as Zeitgeist, Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) as Russell, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as Black Tom Cassidy and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider) as Yukio.
