David Lowery teams with A24 for fantasy epic Green Knight

November 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Filmmaker David Lowery (A Ghost Story) is set to reunite with A24 for the fantasy epic Green Knight, a retelling of the medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Deadline has revealed.

The tale recounts the exploits of the chivalrous and loyal Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur’s Round Table, who – in a test of loyalty to his king –  accepts the challenge of beheading the Green Knight and must wait a year and a day to receive a blow in return.

Lowery most recently directed The Old Man & the Gun starring Robert Redford; his past credits include Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and Pete’s Dragon.

The story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight has twice been adapted for the screen, both times by writer-director Stephen Weeks, with 1973’s Gawain and the Green Knight and 1984’s Sword of the Valiant, the latter of which starred Sean Connery as The Green Knight.
