David S. Goyer will write and produce Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan and John Stewart confirmed

January 12, 2017 by Ricky Church

It seems David S. Goyer will be making a return to Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe as the studio has tapped him to write and produce the Green Lantern Corps film alongside Justin Rhodes. Per Deadline, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will executive produce the film that is described as ‘Lethal Weapon in space’, focusing on John Stewart’s training under Hal Jordan.

Very little has been heard of Green Lantern Corps since it was announced in WB’s slate of DC films in October 2014, but one question which many wondered was whether they would focus on Hal Jordan, who was the central Green Lantern played by Ryan Reynolds in Martin Campbell’s 2011 Green Lantern, or shift to one of the other Earth-based Green Lanterns, such as John Stewart or Kyle Rayner. The film will apparently focus on John Stewart, a former Marine sniper, becoming a Green Lantern, putting emphasis on his relationship with Jordan and the rest of the Corps. Goyer and Johns both crafted the story.

At the time, Green Lantern Corps was placed for a 2020 release, but with the recent shifts and additions for the DCEU films, such as the added Gotham City Sirens film led by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Ben Affleck’s The Batman, who knows if the film will keep its original release.

Goyer has worked on several superhero properties throughout his career, from the Blade trilogy and The Dark Knight trilogy to the beginnings of the DCEU with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as the upcoming TV pilot Krypton. He is also executive producing Guillermo del Toro’s Fantastic Voyage which Justin Rhodes wrote, showing the two already have a working relationship.
