According to Deadline, David Spade (Rules of Engagement, 8 Simple Rules) is teaming with Juno, Young Adult and Tully director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody for a new half-hour comedy series at HBO.
The as-yet-untitled comedy will see Spade playing Calvin Walsh, who was a semi-famous grunge musician and heroin addict back in the 1990s. Now clean and sober and working as a waiter in the Valley, his life changes in unexpected and electrifying ways when he meets a troubled twentysomething actress called Bailey.
Cody has penned the script for the pilot, which Reitman will direct. The duo will also executive produce through their Vita Vera Films and Right of Way Films banners, with Spade producing.
Spade, who was Emmy nominated for his role in NBC’s Just Shoot Me, has recently appeared in the feature films Father of the Year and Warning Shot, along with the ABC comedy The Mayor and Judd Apatow’s Netflix show Love.
