David Tennant earned rave reviews for his villainous turn as the sinister Kilgrave in Netflix’s Marvel series Jessica Jones, but it turns out we came close to seeing him in a much darker role than that of his Doctor Who days several years earlier.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly to promote his new movie Bad Samaritan, Tennant revealed that he was considered for the role of the iconic cannibal serial killer Hannibal Lecter in NBC’s now-cancelled drama series Hannibal.
“I met Bryan Fuller a couple of times, and we talked about it,” said Tennant. “But I think they quite wisely chose Mads Mikkelsen, I think he was a perfect choice for it, and I think he did things with that character that I wouldn’t have managed, so I think the right man got the job.”
