Well, the reduced price for DC Comics beginning with last year’s Rebirth titles certainly didn’t last long. As announced via press release, 15 monthly Rebirth titles will be increasing in price from $2.99 to $3.99.
There are two silver linings here. The first is that the twice-monthly titles – which include big name titles like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lanterns, and Deathstroke – will remain at the reduced price. The second is that the titles that are going up will now include digital codes. DC’s Senior Vice President of Sales & Trade Marketing, John Cunningham, released the following statement:
“Giving readers value was a key component of our Rebirth initiative, and we’re continuing that commitment with this move. We’ve heard from many fans that they like to read and collect our books in both digital and print formats so this new offering gives DC readers the convenience and value pricing they asked for.”
This news comes just two week’s after DC’s rival, Marvel Comics, itself announced that it would no longer be including digital codes with the print copies.
The full list of titles that will see price increases are: Batgirl, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, Batman Beyond, Batwoman, Blue Beetle, Cyborg, The Hellblazer, New Super-Man, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Super Sons, Supergirl, Superwoman, Teen Titans, Titans, and Trinity. All Star Batman, which has had a $4.99 price tag since launch, will remain the same, though it too will now include digital download codes upon purchase of the print issues.
