DC and Vertigo comic Lucifer nabs pilot order at Fox

February 19, 2015 by James Garcia

In September Fox granted Neil Gaiman’s DC and Vertigo comic Lucifer a pilot commitment, and have now made good on that promise and granted the series a pilot order following “a prolonged deal-making process,” according to THR.

Spearheaded by Californication creator Tom Kapinos, the show centers on the titular Lord of Hell, who grows bored and unhappy at his post and abandons his fiery kingdom to open a piano bar in Los Angeles and “get his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.”

Kapinos will pen the pilot script, and the episode will be directed and co-produced by Sleepy Hollow‘s Len Wiseman. Jerry Bruckheimer, Kristie Anne Reed and CSI‘s Jonathan Littman will produce as well.

Lucifer marks one of several DC Comics shows currently in development. Supergirl is currently taking shape at CBS, an Arrow spinoff featuring Brandon Routh’s Atom is in development at the CW, a Superman prequel series Krypton could be heading to SyFy, Titans  is in the works for TNT, and the DC/Vertigo series Preacher is seeking life at AMC.

We’ll have more news on Lucifer as the pilot gears up for production in the coming months.
