DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 Finale Review – ‘The Good, the Bad and the Cuddly’

April 11, 2018 by Jessie Robertson

Jessie Robertson reviews the season 3 finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow…

Let me just say, Legends season 3 found its groove. To blend the ridiculous sci-fi with the off the cuff humor is exactly what this show should be. They really stole the “funny” CW show right out from under The Flash and they wear it so well. For a finale, you really can’t ask for more. Mallus finally appeared (and looked very generic) but at least he wasn’t around that much. There’s a lot going on here; again, typical for a Legends episode. The gist was that the Legends weren’t really good enough to use the Totems. They tried once; Mallus fought them off. They tried a second time and created a disgusting hybrid creature Rory promptly burned to death. But, after a psychedelic trip back through time with Amaya and Nate (as he said, when isn’t it a great time to do that?), they found out the secret to the Totems; They must work together to create a “Voltron” as Nate put it.

We’ll skip around a bit; once Mallus is defeated (which we’ll get to), it’s time for Amaya to go home, really home, like in Zambesi 1940’s. This brings an end to the Nate-Amaya romance that was a big focal point of the last 2 seasons. I liked them together; she was always a fish out of water and he’s just a goofball, and I totally forget everytime he’s supposed to be a scientist. I like Nate. He’s a fun character and I liked them together so it’s a bit of a downer to not have them together. But, as messy as the Zambesi- Totem storyline was at times, it feels like there was a shard missing from this tale; It felt like it was heading towards Nate being involved in the bloodline of the McCabe clan. Apparently not. It was a fine respectable sendoff for Amaya.

Once they get away from Mallus, it’s determined the Wild West is the best place to hide (I have no idea why). They do meet up with Jonah Hex, who Zari’s a bit sweet on and when the Legends feel out matched by past opponents from history, we get cameos of a good Kuasa, Helen of Troy and Jax, who’s now married with a kid!!! It was good to see Jax and the show seems to have moved on from him, which is a shame because I thought he would take the Fire Totem and truly live on as Firestorm. Guess not. After their Old West shootout from the OK Corral, it’s time to make their champion. And who else could it be but a giant sized Beebo! Thank you Legends for an amazing season!

Rating: 8.5/10
