It seems that DC Films is turning to its comic book division for The New Gods, with director Ava DuVernay (A Wrinkle in Time) revealing on social media that she is teaming with current Batman comic writer Tom King to write the script for the proposed movie.

Based on characters created by Jack Kirby, the New Gods inhabit the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips, ruled by the benevolent Highfather and evil Darkseid respectively, who share a fragile peace.
Reports have suggested that the film will focus on Mister Miracle (son of the Highfather) and Big Barda (the former leader of Darkseid’s elite Female Furies) as the two lovers flee Apokolips to set up a new life on Earth, only to find themselves pursued by the Darkseid’s enforcer Granny Goodness and the rest of the Female Furies.
King certainly seems to be a good fit for The New Gods, having won an Eisner Award for his work on the recent Mister Miracle series, while his other DC Comics credits include Swamp Thing and Nightwing.
It was also recently announced that he’ll be writing a new 12-issue Batman/Catwoman series following his exit from the main Batman comic this coming December.
