Josh Brolin couldn’t spend as much times as he would like filming scenes with his Avengers: Infinity War co-stars because of his commitments to Deadpool 2.
The actor is starring as the villain Thanos in the long anticipated Infinity War but according to Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange, Brolin wasn’t able to perform with him very much as he was busy shooting Deadpool 2.
This meant that Cumberbatch would have to act opposite a replacement (who also did motion capture work) during most of his scenes, as the actor explains to Radio Times (via ComicBook.com):
“They used a stand-in for Josh. Josh wasn’t in there for much, he did his bit and then a lot of stuff with a lot of us and him was missing because, I guess, he was doing Deadpool 2 and I was doing Melrose and The Current War.
“But we made it work. It’s often the case you can act with other actors anyways, in certain scenarios because of the amount of additional stuff you have to fit in with the environment or the magic or whatever it is that’s coming out of your hands or your ass.”
While this might sound disappointing, as Cumberbatch alludes to, there is a lot of CGI work involved in films of this nature so once the Russos are finished putting it all together, there should be no apparent diminution in quality.
