The internet breathed a collective sigh of relief when Josh Brolin’s Cable was finally revealed this week, and looked like he leapt straight off the page. And it looks like fans won’t have to worry about the actual characterization of Cable in Deadpool 2, or his relationship with the Merc with a Mouth either, as director David Leitch has reassured fans that the duo’s relationship is heavily inspired by the comics.
Speaking to CBR, Leitch had this to say…
“Cable has a really interesting and complex backstory. Obviously, no film could ever encapsulate the entire backstory, so I think we’ll find the first introduction is about who this character is. When you look at the Cable and Deadpool comic book series, you see how there is banter between them. Whether they are on opposite sides or not, they are definitely formidable to each other. One is frustrating to the other. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin is amazing. It’s not unlike what you see in the Cable and Deadpool series.”

Deadpool 2 is really starting to take shape. We recently had our very first look at Zazie Beetz as Domino, and now we have officially been introduced to Cable. One on top of the other. The way things are moving, it feels like actual footage of the film is not too far away.
Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as the film’s villain, and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider) and Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on June 1st 2018.
