Back in February of 2018, it was announced that Deadpool director Tim Miller was teaming with acclaimed comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis for an X-Men spinoff based around the character of Kitty Pryde.
Since then, of course, 20th Century Fox has come under the ownership of Disney, and with that the rights to Fox’s various X-Men properties are now under the control of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. And while Marvel is yet to make clear its plans for the X-Men, it seems they won’t include Miller’s Kitty Pryde film.
“I love the X-Men,” said Miller in an interview with Comic Book to promote the release of his latest film Terminator: Dark Fate. “I don’t expect Marvel to call me and say, ‘Come do the X-Men,’ so I’m not waiting for that. I was really excited about my Kitty Pryde movie. Fuck, I love that movie. It’ll never happen now.”
Kitty Pryde was one of several X-Men movies in development prior to the Fox acquisition alongside the likes of Doctor Doom and Multiple Man, and it looks like the axe has been swung on all of them, save perhaps for Deadpool 3, with Ryan Reynolds recently teasing a meeting with Marvel Studios about the future of the Merc with a Mouth.
