Demian Bichir joins Alien: Covenant cast

February 23, 2016 by Justin Cook

Alien: Covenant, the Ridley Scott-directed sequel to 2012’s Prometheus, has just added Oscar-nominated actor Demian Bichir to its cast, according to Deadline. Bichir is set to join a group of actors that includes Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, who is reprising his role as David, and the recently announced Danny McBride.

As of now, no details about Bichir’s character have been released.

In their article, Deadline also lists Noomi Rapace, star of Prometheus, as part of the sequel’s cast, despite Scott himself claiming last month that she will not appear in the film. Reports on this matter have conflicted in the past, but as the film’s release date inches closer, Fox will surely put out an official statement on whether or not the actress is involved, to clear things up.

The film will supposedly begin filming in Australia in the near future.

Over the course of his multi-decade-long career, Bichir has appeared in such projects as Che: Part One, Weeds, Savages, Machete Kills and The Bridge. In 2012, he earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in A Better Life, and just last year, he worked alongside Quentin Tarantino on The Hateful Eight.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant is set for release on October 6th, 2017.
