Denis Villeneuve would love to direct a James Bond movie

September 30, 2015 by Robert Kojder

Denis Villeneuve has been making media rounds all over the world in promotion for his war on drugs thriller Sicario [read my extremely positive review here], and in an interview with ComingSoon ended up discussing his affection for 007 and his desire to direct a film in the franchise one day.

“It’s strange, because I understand that each genre has its own specific rules, but for me, they are all movies. I’m just attracted to try to do different things, and I was very excited to make a movie that required more action. I was raised with James Bond. I love James Bond movies. I would love to do a James Bond movie one day. Action is very cinematic. I’m not someone that loves dialogue – I am someone that loves movement. Action, if it’s well done, can be very poetic and meaningful.”

The remarks came as a response to an inquiry about Sicario being a more action oriented film than his previous efforts, which is true and a testament that he would be a good fit for the job. Villeneuve has also collaborated multiple times with Skyfall cinematographer Roger Deakins and will do so again for the Blade Runner sequel rumored to be titled Androids Dream, so it would be nice to see the duo come together for a Bond outing.

Keep in mind this isn’t very realistic at the moment as Villeneuve could still be busy with Androids Dream by the time the next Bond is ready to begin production, but one thing is for certain is that Sam Mendes has stated that Spectre will be his final time in the hot seat directing a James Bond movie.
