Following the lead of MGM’s James Bond film No Time To Die, Warner Bros. looks to be avoiding cinemas for the rest of 2020. As originally reported by Collider, the upcoming adaptation of Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve, will no longer see its release this December and will likely move to October 1st, 2021.
Following the lackluster box-office performance of Tenet and some major cinemas shutting their doors for the rest of the year, it seems like the move was inevitable.
Dune was slated to open on December 18th but then Warner Bros. also delayed Wonder Woman 1984 to December, crowding their already unpredictable market. As of now, Wonder Woman 1984 is still scheduled for a Christmas release, with Disney testing the waters a month earlier with their film Soul. Whether that changes or not, only time will tell.
