While the Star Wars movies are currently on hiatus, Lucasfilm is looking to expand the galaxy further through multiple television series for Disney+ including the upcoming Rogue One prequel series, Cassian Andor.
In a recent interview with ET, Cassian Andor actor Diego Luna confirmed the show is set to begin filming this year and explains how the series will take a different approach.
“Yes, we are doing it,” Luna said. “We are doing it this year. It’s happening, and I’m getting ready for it. I can’t wait. It is really cool to tell a story where you already know the ending.”
Luna further explained that the series will be taking a “different approach” because fans already know that fate of Cassian Andor at the end of Rogue One.
“It is a different approach because of the beauty and it’s how things happen,” Luna explained. “It’s not just what happens. It’s not the typical way of approaching a story. It’s about how things happen, which in fact, is the same that happened in Rogue One. You know the ending, but you don’t know how it happened, and we have that challenge in front of us again, which is exciting.”
Diego Luna and K-2SO actor Alan Tudyk are set to return for the upcoming series that is set before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story during the early days of the Rebellion.
Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy is also returning to write and direct some episodes with Stephen Schiff (The Americans) serving as showrunner, which has been created and written by Jared Bush (Moana).
