Disdoored brings plasticene craziness to Steam Early Access today

May 31, 2018 by Andrew Newton

Bitbox Ltd. and developer Anton Riot’s wacky plasticine survival title Disdoored is now available on Steam Early Access.  Disdoored will see players attempt to survive in a claymation world that has been entirely handmade and hand animated using over 20 lbs of plasticine.

In Disdoored players take the role of the plasticine defender of a peaceful land which comes under attack from a horde of vicious monsters that have entered through a set of mysterious doors that opened across the land.  Players will need to travel this once peaceful land, farming and fighting their way to close the doors for good.  Fortunately, a sentient sapling called Lily holds the secret to closing the doors and she will need to be nurtured if she is to share her secret.

Disdoored features:

  • A completely handmade and hand animated world made of 100% plasticine.  Every character, creature, weapon, tree, snail, giant mushroom was molded by the developers and animated using stop motion techniques with over 20,000 photos taken.
  • Become a peaceful farmer.  Start with a plasticine plot and watch your farm come to life as you care for it, but be careful not to grow a vicious, man-eating pumpkin.
  • Become an adventurous explorer with an extensive variety of weaponry at his disposal including bombs, grenades, swords and guns (including the Legendary Popcorn Gun or “TLPG” for short).
  • Find clay creatures to defend you against dangers or produce goods to help you on your journey. Creature’s aggression and productivity can be upgraded through the power of Slimeballs plus wild new species can be created such as a snail that gives milk.
  • Discover the mysteries of the Doors.  Each door hides a secret, from treasure such as ancient artifacts, long-forgotten technologies to certain death.

“The idea behind Disdoored came to me initially because it seemed like plasticine and video game design were a perfect union,” said Anton Riot, Lead Developer for Disdoored. “Shifting from the game design and programming aspects of development, to the molding of the models, to taking still images and finally watching a physical creation come to life has been a wonderful experience. The whole team is so passionate about this game and we’re looking forward to sharing Disdoored with the world!”

Disdoored is available on Steam Early Access now.
