Coming hot on the heels of the announcement that Star Wars: The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson is set to create a brand new Star Wars trilogy, Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced that the galaxy far, far away is coming to the small screen with a live-action series that will air on Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
In addition to the Star Wars show, Disney has also announced that it is teaming with Marvel Television for a brand new show, and is also developing TV adaptations of Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. and The Disney Channel’s High School Musical.
The new original series will feature as part of Disney’s dedicated streaming service, which is also set to serve as the home for all of Disney’s feature films, including Marvel and Star Wars. Disney has also said that it will produce around five original movies each year for the service.
The new service has raised questions with regards to Marvel’s ongoing deal with Netflix, which covers the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher, with rumours suggesting that Marvel can no longer make deals with non-Disney companies for its TV content.
