Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Disney has snapped up the rights to Delilah Dirk, a graphic novel series from Tony Cliff, and is developing a live-action movie for the swashbuckling heroine who has been described as “a female Indiana Jones”.
Described as the “international mistress of swordsmanship”, Delilah made her debut in 2013’s New York Times bestseller Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant, which was followed by Delilah Dirik and the King’s Shilling and the upcoming third adventure Delilah Dirk and the Pillars of Hercules.
“Part of the inspiration for the Delilah Dirk series was reading mainstream superhero comics back in the late ’90s and finding that all the female characters were almost without exception completely humorless,” states creator Cliff. “This contrasted heavily with the actual human women I knew and counted as friends, and I wanted to bring that missing element to the type of comics I liked.”
