2002’s Lilo & Stitch is set to become the latest Disney animated feature to get the live-action remake treatment, THR has revealed.
The studio has tapped Mike Van Waes to pen a script for the new movie, which has Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich attached to produce. Lin and Eirich already have experience with Disney remakes, as they are producing the upcoming Aladdin film from director Guy Ritchie.
Lilo & Stitch follows a lonely young Hawaiian girl called Lilo, who meets Experiment 626 (a.k.a. Stitch), a genetically-engineered alien created to cause chaos and destruction. The two quickly bond, with Stitch reconsidering his destructive ways, but there is the small problem of the Galactic Federation, who are hot on his trail.
The original film grossed almost $275 million globally upon release, and spawned several direct-to-video sequels and animated/anime series.
