Disney making “a few” Star Wars TV series for Disney streaming service

February 7, 2018 by Ricky Church

Yesterday Lucasfilm announced Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be working on a new series of Star Wars films once the HBO series comes to an end, but fresh off that announcement is even more news from the galaxy far, far away as Disney is developing several Star Wars television series for their upcoming streaming service.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed this news on Tuesday during a call with investors. “We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app,” he said. “We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that. I think you’ll find the level of talent… on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

Back in November, Iger revealed they were working on, at the time, just one live-action Star Wars series as well as television series for A High School Musical and Monsters Inc. They are also planning on moving over all their films, from Disney animated classics to Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe films over to this new platform, which should launch sometime in 2019.

There is currently already one Star Wars series from Lucasfilm and Disney on television; Star Wars Rebels, though that is set to end its fourth and final season in just a few weeks. We’ll have to see whether we get another animated series along with the live-action show when the streaming platform launches next year.

How do you feel about getting multiple Star Wars shows? What would you like to see from them? Let us know below…
