Bob Iger has this week announced that he is stepping down from his role as Disney CEO, sooner than expected.
In 2019 Bob Iger annouced that he would be leaving his position as Disney CEO in 2021 but this week that timetable has been sped up, with Iger stepping down immediately from the position.
In his place, Bob Chapek will take the reigns with Iger focusing on the creative side of Disney’s operations and will remain in the role of executive chairman of Disney until 2021. In a statement (via CNBC), Iger said:
“With the successful launch of Disney’s direct-to-consumer businesses and the integration of Twenty-First Century Fox well underway, I believe this is the optimal time to transition to a new CEO”.
Iger said the timing just “felt right” and doesn’t believe this change will cause any confusion. Iger has certainly overseen a massive amount as CEO, including dominating the box office with the MCU and Star Wars.
