Disney is set to make a new live-action Snow White film, although this one will revolve around her sister, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The new film is set to have a “revisionist” feel that would add Snow White’s sister Rose Red into the story. Justin Merz (The Boxcar Children) has written the script for the proposed project, from a pitch by Evan Daugherty.
Grimms’ fairy tales was where Rose Red first appeared, although her story had no links or relation to the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story that was made into the classic (and first) Disney animated film in 1937.
Merz’s original story for Red was to be a more “stand-alone” film, but the new take by Daugherty has brought the story closer to the original animated film so it’s more of a “companion piece” that sees Rose Red and the dwarves undertaking a dangerous quest to save Snow White after she bites the poison apple.
Screenwriter Daugherty is no stranger to the character having written the recent Snow White and the Huntsman starring Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.
The sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, opens in the UK on Monday April 4th and later in the month in the US.
