Just six years on from the release of its last effort, Disney is set to reboot Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day with a new feature film adaptation of Judith Viorst’s classic children’s book for the Disney+ streaming service.
It’s unclear at this point if and how the plot might differ from the original or the source material, but the new take will focus on a multigenerational Latinx family. Matt Lopez – whose Disney credits include Bedtime Stories, Race to Witch Mountain, and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – is on board to write the script.
The new film is being produced by Shawn Levy of 21 Laps Entertainment and Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company, who were behind the Steve Carell-headlined live-action adaptation which was released back in 2014. That film was a decent success at the box office, earning just over $100 million from a $28 million production budget.
