UPDATE: Disney closing in on Fox takeover deal

December 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

UPDATE: According to CNBC, The Walt Disney Company is now closing in on a deal to acquire 21st Century Fox assets, and an announcement could happen as soon as next week with estimates putting the price at around $75 billion. Original story follows…

Earlier this month it was revealed that The Walt Disney Company had held talks with 21st Century Fox about acquiring a number of its assets, including its movie studio division 20th Century Fox, TV channels FX and National Geographic, Fox’s TV production assets, and its stake in international broadcasters such as Sky and Star.

It was said that talks had ceased, with the two companies unable to reach a deal, opening the door for other potential suitors to come forward, including Sony and Comcast (the parent company of Universal Pictures). However, if Deadline is to be believed, negotiations between Disney and Fox have since reopened, and it is expected that the Mouse House is “progressing speedily” towards the acquisition, although any news on the talks will likely only be forthcoming once the ink has dried and the deal is done.

Should Disney acquire Fox, it would get its hands on a number of potentially lucrative movie franchises, including Avatar, Planet of the Apes, Alien, Predator and Die Hard, as well as opening the door for Marvel Studios to incorporate X-Men and Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Would you like to see Disney acquiring Fox? If so, how would you integrate the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU? Or would you keep them separate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
