Disney reveals details on Star Wars, Marvel, TRON theme park attractions

July 16, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday at the D23 Expo, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts chairman Bob Chapek made a host of announcements relating to upcoming attractions at the various Disney resorts.

The biggest news was of course the upcoming Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, which now have an official title in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

As previously announced, one of the two main attractions at Galaxy’s Edge will be the opportunity to fly the iconic Millennium Falcon, while the other will put you into the hangar bay of a Star Destroyer. Various Star Wars characters will populate the land, including BB-8, Chewbacca, and First Order Stormtroopers, while guests will also be able to visit various locations such as the cantina, where you can even try some blue milk.

Chapek also announced the launch of a Star Wars-inspired resort as part of the Disney 360 vacation experience, where guests will be able to fully immerse themselves in the galaxy far, far away.

“It’s unlike anything that exists today,” said Chapek. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

In other announcements, Chapek revealed that Disney California Adventure park will become home to a Marvel Super Hero universe, expanding the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout ride with new attractions based upon Spider-Man and The Avengers. A Guardians of the Galaxy attraction will also launch at Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort, as will a Ratatouille-inspired attraction, while a TRON attraction is also set to open at Magic Kingdom Park in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
