Disney rumoured to be planning new Star Wars animated series

November 25, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday /Film posted a rumour regarding the plot for Gareth Edwards’ (Godzilla) standalone Star Wars movie – suggesting that the story will revolve around a team of bounty hunters hired by the Rebellion to steal the plans to the Death Star – and now the site is back with another Star Wars story, this time concerning Lucasfilm’s animated Star Wars adventures.

According to the site, Disney and Lucasfilm plans to have Star Wars Rebels running for three or four seasons before launching a new animated series that will take place in the timeline of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the two subsequent chapters of the Sequel Trilogy and feature an entirely new cast of characters. It will reportedly launch around the same time as the release of Rian Johnson’s as-yet-untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII.

This should of course be taken with a pinch of salt until we hear something official, but it would make sense for Disney to tie in to its big screen releases with a show set around the same timeframe.
