While Disney may have ruled out the possibility of its massively successful Frozen franchise getting the live-action treatment (for the time being, anyway), a new rumour suggests the Mouse House is venturing very close with a live-action adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen.
Accordoing to The Disinsider, Disney has set Kristin Burr (Christopher Robin, Cruella) to produce a feature film version of the classic fairy tale, although as yet no writing or directing talent are on board. It’s said that the plan is to produce the movie for theatrical release, as opposed to the Disney+ streaming service.
Although Frozen is loosely based upon The Snow Queen, the report states categorically that this is not a “live-action Frozen“, but rather “a brand new film altogether”, and so fans of Anna and Elsa should temper any expectations that we might see the world of Arendelle brought to life.

Next up from Disney’s live-action slate is the Niki Caro-directed Mulan, which is currently slated for releae in cinemas on July 24th.
