Football player-turned-activist Colin Kaepernick will partner with The Walt Disney Company in a first-look deal. First up for the partnership is a docu-series, produced by ESPN.
Disney says the docuseries will feature Kaepernick and provide “extensive new interviews and a vast never-before-seen archive that documents his last five years.” They also add that “Kaepernick will tell his story from his perspective.”
“I am excited to announce this historic partnership with Disney across all of its platforms to elevate Black and Brown directors, creators, storytellers, and producers, and to inspire the youth with compelling and authentic perspectives,” Kaepernick said in a statement. “I look forward to sharing the docuseries on my life story, in addition to many other culturally impactful projects we are developing.”
The deal between Kaepernick’s Ra Vision Media and Disney was announced early on Monday. The business partnership looks to tell scripted and unscripted stories that explore race, social injustice, and the quest for equity. These upcoming projects also will provide a platform to showcase the work of minority directors and producers.
