The original Lilo & Stitch was released in 2002 and followed Lilo, a young Hawaiian girl who thinks she’s just adopted a dog, but it is really the alien creature designated Experiment 626 designed as a bioweapon that escaped captivity to Earth. It saw various aliens trying to re-capture 626, who Lilo named Stitch, as Lilo and her older sister Nani tried adjusting to their new lives while Stitch learns what it is to be more than a weapon and have a family.
The live-action film will star Maia Kealoha in her debut role as Lilo with Chris Sanders returning to voice Stitch. Also starring in the remake is Sydney Agudong as Nani, Zach Galifianakis as Stich’s creator Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles with Tia Carrere returning to Lilo & Stitch after voicing Nani in the original. She will play Mrs. Kekoa, an original character who is the social worker assigned to Lilo and Nani’s case after the death of their parents.
Lilo & Stitch will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell With Shoes On) from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright.
Lilo & Stitch will be released in theatres on May 23rd, 2025.
