Yet another live-action Disney adaptation is heading into production as Disney has announced that filming is underway in Vancouver for Peter Pan & Wendy, the upcoming live-action remake of its beloved 1953 animated film.
Peter Pan & Wendy will be directed by David Lowery and produced by Jim Whitaker, who are set to re-team after both working on 2016’s live-action remake, Pete’s Dragon. The script is written by Lowery and Pete’s Dragon co-writer, Toby Halbrook, which is inspired by Disney’s Peter Pan and J.M. Barrie’s 1911 novel, Peter and Wendy. The remake is set to debut on the Disney+ streaming service in 2022.
The cast for Peter Pan & Wendy includes Alexander Molony (The Reluctant Landlord) as Peter and Ever Anderson, the daughter of Milla Jovovich and director Paul W.S. Anderson, as Wendy. They join Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Captain Hook, Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) as Tinkerbell, and Jim Gaffigan (The Jim Gaffigan Show) as Smee, Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Mr Darling, Molly Parker (House of Cards) as Mrs Darling, Joshua Pickering as John, Jacobi Jupe as Michael, and Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily.
“Peter Pan has long been one of my favourite stories, partially because I’ve always resisted growing up, but also because of the heart, adventure and imagination that makes J.M. Barrie’s original tale so evergreen,” Lowery said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to redefine his iconic characters for a new generation – and even more excited that I get to do so with such an exceptional cast and crew.”
