In what could be described as potentially perfect casting, Deadline is reporting that Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd. are rumoured to be contemplating a reboot of their Indiana Jones franchise, with Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World) their apparent No. 1 choice to take over from Harrison Ford.
While any official word may be some way off, it would seem like a match made in heaven for a potential reboot, and many fans of Pratt have speculated before that he would make a great Indy.
The last film in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released in 2008 to mixed reviews, but still managed a worldwide gross of over $780 million, second only that year to The Dark Knight in the yearly box-office charts.
A fifth adventure with Harrison Ford has been rumoured ever since the last film, and George Lucas had hinted at a new outing, but since then Lucas has sold on the rights to Disney as part of the Lucasfilm deal. Ford himself has always maintained an interest in reprising his role, but he is now in his 70’s (73 to be precise), so a reboot for that reason along would make sense.
Pratt will of course appear in director Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World this summer, and is rumoured to be joining Denzel Washington in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven.
