Having cast young actor Elisha ‘EJ’ Williams in the lead role, the upcoming reboot of The Wonder Years has now found its adult Dean Williams, with Don Cheadle set to serve as narrator of the upcoming reboot.
Written by Saladin Patterson and directed by Fred Savage, the original series’ Kevin Arnold, the single camera pilot takes place during the same timeframe as the classic 80s comedy-drama and follows 12-year-old Dean Williams, an inquisitive and hopeful kid coming of age in a turbulent time in 1960s Montgomery, Alabama.
Along with Williams and Cheadle, the pilot features Dulé Hill and Saycon Sengbloh star as Dean’s parents and Laura Kariuki as his teenage sister. Patterson and Savage are executive producing with Lee Daniels, while the original series’ co-creator Neal Marlens serves as a consultant.
Cheadle has earned multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his TV work, which includes Showtime’s House of Lies and Black Monday. He’ll next be seen on the big screen in Warner Bros.’ Space Jam: A New Legacy.
