FX has set Donald Sutherland to play oil tycoon J. Paul Getty in Trust, a new anthology series revolving around the Getty dynasty, which is being directed by Danny Boyle from a script by Simon Beaufoy.
The 10-episode first season will tell the story John Paul Getty III, who was kidnapped aged 16, with his captors demanding a $17 million ransom for his release. However, despite being one of the richest men in the world, his grandfather J. Paul Getty refuses to cave in to the kidnappers’ demands, and with Paul’s father lost in a heroin-induced daze, it is left to his mother to negotiate for his release.
The story of the Getty kidnapping is also set for a big screen adaptation, with Ridley Scott currently prepping to shoot All the Money in the World, which has Michelle Williams, Kevin Spacey and Mark Wahlberg circling.
