Dormammu almost appeared in Avengers: Endgame

December 15, 2019 by Gary Collinson

As part of their For Your Consideration campaign for the Academy Awards, Disney and Marvel have released the full screenplay for this year’s blockbuster superhero epic Avengers: Endgame, which reveals that the Doctor Strange villain Dormammu almost made a brief cameo appearance in the movie.

On page 77 of the script, during the sequence where the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) explains to the “astral” Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) about the darkness that would befall her reality should she hand over the Time Stone, the scene then cuts to Hong Kong, where Dormammu appears in the sky above the burning Sanctum:

Dormammu, the ruler of the Dark Dimension, made a surprise appearance in the third act of Doctor Strange (where he was voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch), and found himself tricked into an endless time loop with the Sorcerer Supreme until he agreed a bargain never to threaten Earth again. Whether he’ll break that bargain with a role in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness or another upcoming Marvel project, we shall have to wait and see.

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie).
