Doug Liman to direct Tom Cruise movie shot in space

May 27, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Recently, it was revealed Tom Cruise is teaming up with Elon Musk’s SpaceX organisation and NASA to create an action-adventure movie which will be filmed in outer space and onboard the International Space Station. Now, the project has reportedly found the director willing to launch into space alongside Cruise.

According to a new report by Deadline, director Doug Liman will be joining Cruise after the duo planned the project together, with Liman writing the first draft of the screenplay and planning to produce the film along with Cruise.

This isn’t the first time the pair have worked together as Liman previously directed Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow and American Made. His filmography also includes Jumper, The Bourne Identity, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

However, Liman is currently in post-production on Chaos Walking, an upcoming sci-fi film starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland. Meanwhile, Cruise is waiting for production to resume on Christoper McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8, and his long-awaited sequel Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled for a December 23rd, 2020 release – so it may be some time before we see the project begin shooting.

Further details on the potential project including title and plot are being kept under wraps, and as it stands now, the project still does not have a studio attached.
