Adi Shankar, producer of 2012’s Dredd, is up for making a R-Rated movie version of the classic video game Mega Man.
Shankar is known for putting his own spin on his favourite childhood films and shows. Such as the bloody short film reimagining of the Power Rangers that got many desperate for a dark feature length adaptation of the show.
Shankar also has a Netflix adaptation of the classic video game Castlevania on the way (which he says will be “R-rated as fuck”), and is now looking further afield to another landmark game series, Mega Man.
Speaking with WWG, Shankar commented on the idea when asked about what future adaptations he would like to make, replying, “I’d love to do a hard-R Mega Man.”

Shankar is a massive gamer, and wants to do justice to everything he puts his hand to; this includes the Castlevania project and any potential Mega Man movie.
He said, “Even though I have one foot in the door in Hollywood, I’m not trying to rape and pillage culture for profit. I’m trying to take the things I loved as a kid and bring them to life in an interesting way.”
This is certainly an admirable quality and one that many fans will be pleased to here. We all want to see our favourite shows, games, and movies have life once more, but only if they are done right. It seems like Shankar is at least fighting the good fight on this one.
