Dunkirk’s Tom Glynn-Carney joins Tolkien biopic

October 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Dunkirk star Tom Glynn-Carney has become the latest addition to the cast of Tolkien, the upcoming biopic of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien, Variety has revealed.

Glynn-Carney is set to portray Christopher Wiseman, socially adept beyond his years and the class clown, who spots Tolkien’s potential and invites him into his social group. Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Apocalypse) is portraying Tolkien, with Lily Collins (To the Bone) as Edith Bratt, Tolkien’s sweetheart and eventual wife, and Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) as Father Francis, one of Tolkien’s teachers.

The film is being directed by Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland) and will explore Tolkien’s formative years at school as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a fellow group of outcasts prior to the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear their ‘fellowship’ apart.
