Over fifteen years on from first being linked to the role, Dwayne Johnson has recently wrapped filming on Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Black Adam, the first superhero movie outing for the WWE superstar turned Hollywood megastar.
It’s certainly been a long time coming, and as his Seven Bucks producing partner Hiram Garcia has revealed in an interview with Collider, Johnson has previously “floated around a few ideas” with Marvel Studios but always had his heart set on portraying the DC antihero.
“[We] have a great relationship [with Marvel] and we’ve flirted around a few ideas before, but nothing serious”, said Garcia. “There’s a mutual admiration for what we each have been doing and what Kevin [Feige] has built over there is truly incredible.”
“Ultimately though for us, we’ve always been very committed to what we wanted to build with Black Adam,” Garcia continued. “Black Adam was the character we wanted to bring to life and who we felt DJ was destined to play. Once we set our sights on this character over a decade ago it was hard to imagine DJ [as] anyone else.”
