Deadline is reporting that Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions is teaming with Sonic the Hedgehog producers dj2 Entertainment for a feature film based upon Hazelight Studios and EA’s Game of the Year-winning It Takes Two.
The movie adaptation of the critically acclaimed co-op title will follow May and Cody, a struggling married couple “as they contemplate divorce, finding their minds transported into two dolls that their daughter, Rose, made to represent them. They must then find a way to get back into their bodies—a quest which takes them through the most wild, unexpected and fantastical journey imaginable.”
It Takes Two is being scripted by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, the screenwriters behind Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, who are also set to reunite with dj2 to write the third Sonic movie. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia will produce for Seven Bucks alongside Dmitri M. Johnson and Dav Jevons of dj2. Amazon is set to distribute.
dj2 is hot off Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which is currently showing in cinemas and has collected almost 250 million gold rings worldwide at the time of writing. The company, which specialises in video game adaptations, recently signed a first-look deal with Amazon which included Life is Strange and Disco Elysium adaptations, and it has also just set John Wick creator Derek Kolstad to write a Streets of Rage movie.
