With Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam movie finally moving forward ahead of a December 2021 release date, The Rock has revealed that the upcoming movie is set to introduce a brand new superhero team into the DC Extended Universe.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Johnson ruled out an appearance from Zachary Levi’s Shazam in Black Adam, but did confirm previous rumours that the world’s first superhero team – the Justice Society of America – will be introduced in the movie.
The Golden Age superhero teammade their debut in DC’s All Star Comics #3 in 1940, and originally featured a roster of Doctor Fate, Hour-Man, The Spectre, The Atom, The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman and The Sandman. In modern continuity, the JSA remains a 1940s-era team and the predecessors to the current crop of heroes.
Black Adam is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, The Commuter), who directed Johnson in Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise. It is slated to begin shooting in July 2020 and will open in cinemas on December 22nd 2021 release.
