The hierarchy of many things is changing now that Dwayne Johnson has entered the Hollywood conversation again.
Not only is Johnson on the Board of Directors at WWE now, along with a WrestleMania match looming, but the star is also returning to one of his most prominent movie roles as Johnson is reportedly set to reprise the voice of demigod Maui in the upcoming Moana 2.
If you aren’t familiar with the Moana sequel announcement, Disney surprised fans by announcing that the once-planned Disney+ series that would serve as a Moana follow-up is currently being reworked to as a feature film.
One of the more interesting notes is the planned live-action remake of Moana, set for 2025, is being delayed due to this new animated excursion. Disney has not made a formal announcement about the live-action delay.
At the time of writing, there’s no word on whether Auli’i Cravalho is coming back as the voice of Moana. In May of 2023, it was announced that Cravalho would not returning for the live-action version, the actress stating at the time, “I’m truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific people’s cultures and communities that help inspire her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representations to come. Mahalo,”
