Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s stock continues to rise as his new HBO comedy show Ballers has enjoyed impressive viewings figures, delivering the highest for a half-hour show on the network for six years.
Despite the show’s finale being up against the premiere of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, Ballers wrapped its first season with some impressive numbers. Sunday’s finale averaged 1.43 million viewers, according to Nielsen “live plus same-day estimates,” but it was slightly lower than the 1.57 million it gained the previous week.
According to the network’s Nielsen data, analysts have said that Ballers averaged 8.8 million viewers across multi-platforms, putting it third in the list of all-time HBO comedies behind Hung (9.3 million) and leader Sex and The City (10.3 million). Prior to Sunday’s finale, Ballers averaged 1.73 million viewers in “live plus same-day”.
The show debuted to 2.16 million viewers, taking the title of the most-watched comedy episode on HBO since the finale episode of Entourage in 2011 (2.61 million).
Ballers debuts in UK on September 8th on Sky Atlantic.
