40 years on from his first outing and 30 since he last donned the Detroit Lions jacket, Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley is back on the beat (and not really looking a day older) as Empire Magazine unveils the first image from Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.
“Anytime he walks on set, you never know what you’re going to get,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer with regards to reuniting with Murphy on the fourth instalment of the action-comedy series. “And it’s always pretty brilliant. Every day he’s there throws you back to the ‘80s.”
Having been in development in various incarnations since the mid-90s, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is directed by Mark Molloy and sees Murphy joined by series veterans Judge Reinhold (Billy Rosewood), John Ashton (John Taggart), Paul Reiser (Jeffrey Friedman) and Bronson Pinchot (Serge), while new cast members include Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kevin Bacon and Mark Pellegrino.
The plot will see Axel returning to Beverly Hills following the death of an old friend, where he teams up with his estranged defence attorney daughter (Taylour Paige) to investigate corruption within the Beverly Hills Police Department.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is coming to Netflix in 2024.
