Edgar Ramirez and Jesse Plemons to play villains opposite Dwayne Johnson in Jungle Cruise

April 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

As casting continues on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, it has been reported that the Dwayne Johnson-headlined adventure movie has cast Edgar Ramirez (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) and Jesse Plemons (Game Night) in villainous roles.

The movie, an adaptation of the Disney theme park ride, is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) and sees Johnson as a riverboat captain cursed with immortality who takes Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) down river on her quest to search for the Tree of Life. Jack Whitehall (Bad Education) is also on board as Blunt’s brother.

Ramirez is said to be playing a man with a conquistador background who is one of the story’s villains. As yet, there’s no word on Plemons’ character, save for the fact that he’s also a bad guy.

Jungle Cruise is set to begin shooting this summer, with Collet-Serra directing from a script by Michael Green (Logan), J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek Beyond, Godzilla vs. Kong). Expect it to arrive some time in 2019.
