Edward Furlong was “bummed out” by John Connor appearance Terminator: Dark Fate

December 2, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

Terminator: Dark Fate spoilers follow…

During the San Diego Comic-Con back in July, producer James Cameron revealed that Terminator 2: Judgment Day star Edward Furlong would be reuniting with his T2 co-stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton and reprising the role of John Connor for the first time since 1996’s theme park attraction T2-3D: Battle Across Time.

While fans were certainly intrigued by a rare big screen appearance from the former child star, as it happened Furlong’s involvement proved to be extremely minimal, with the film opening in a bar in Guatemala as a digitally de-aged Arnold T-800 guns down a 13-year-old John, played by a child stand-in with a Furlong CGI face mask.

As you might expect, it wasn’t the return that Furlong had been hoping for, the actor telling YouTuber Alex Leyba that: “They smoked my ass. That was the role. I did it for a day – I shot for one day. And, yeah, we did some CGI. They paid me. So, I mean, ya know. It kinda bums me out. Cause I’d love to do a whole one and make a shit-ton of money. I would love to do more, but we’ll see what happens.”

Given that Terminator: Dark Fate failed to make anywhere near shit-ton of money (it’s expected to LOSE over $120 million after bombing at the box office), one would have to assume we’ve seen the last of Furlong’s John Connor, if not the entire Terminator franchise itself.

Terminator: Dark Fate is directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), with James Cameron producing, and sees Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) and Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) reprising their roles alongside new cast additions Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Natalia Reyes (Lady), Diego Boneta (Pretty Little Liars) and Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
