Frontier Developments has announced that due to the current situation with the virus and lockdowns the next expansion for Elite Dangerous, Odyssey, has been delayed. This delay also means that there are also changes to the game’s development roadmap throughout 2021. PC gamers will see a small number of changes to the roadmap while more significant changes will affect the plans for console.
The Alpha for Odyssey is now planned to arrive on PC in early spring and will see a phased approach in introducing new features and systems. This method will allow the development team to respond to community feedback and significant testing. The full release is scheduled to now take place in late spring.
Gamers on Xbox One and Playstation 4 will have to wait a little bit longer to set foot on alien planets as the console version won’t make an appearance until autumn. Not only does this longer extension take into account the current situation but also allows the team to ensure the highest standards.
Players will be able to follow the progress of the upcoming expansion as Frontier promise to bring more news and videos as time goes on.
Throughout 2020 the developers from all studios around the world have done their best to bring us the games and content we enjoy but with the pandemic spreading faster thanks to new strain variants and the ensuing lockdowns and restrictions we may see more content delayed.
Personally I’m fine with them as it means the companies are ensuring the safety of their staff, but how do you feel about the delays? Share your thoughts with us on our social media.
