The Elizabeth Banks’ helmed reboot of Charlie’s Angels has received a 2019 release date from its studio.
Sony Pictures, who are behind the reboot of the 70s television show, have now put a June 7th, 2019 release date on their long talked about project which is set to be directed by Elizabeth Banks.
Banks will also be producing the reboot via her Universal-based Brownstone Productions with her husband and producing partner, Max Handelman.
The original Charlie’s Angels debuted back in 1976 on ABC and lasted for five seasons, starring Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith.
UPDATE: According to The Tracking Board, Moonlight and Hidden Figures star Janelle Monae is one for one of the three Angels, while Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro (Narcos) have been brought in to write the script, previously penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast).
In 2000, a movie adaptation directed by McG was released about the team of female private detectives. The film starred Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu. It was followed by a 2003 sequel entitled Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. The two movies grossed $264 million and $259 million respectively worldwide.
